Q: What is Hosting?
A: Most websites are served to the World Wide Web using commercial grade computers called servers. When you purchase "Hosting" your are basically renting space on a server. Hosting companies have large server farms and data pipes, directly linked to the internet's backbone, so that a website's content can be quickly delivered to the user. GoGrimes uses a premier third party hosting provider, that is partnered with Microsoft, to provide hosting services. .

Q: What is a Domain Name?
A: A Domain is the first level of the world wide web, .com,.net,.org are all first level domains. A Domain NAME indicates the location of a website within the domain. So GoGrimes is the Domain name in the .com Domain. Both the Domain Name and the Domain are required to locate a website.

Q: How does the ATP process work?
A: Approval To Proceed (ATP) is a process used by GoGrimes to ensure that our clients are directly involved through out the development process. As sections of a website are developed, the client is sent an email with a link to the completed section, asking for review and approval of the section. The client can make comments and request changes to the section before the developer moves on to the next development task. Clients are encouraged to participate in the review process to ensure that the delivered product meets the clients needs.

Q: How does a search engine find my site?
A: Search engines, like Google.com, Yahoo.com and many others, are categorized indexes of websites. To be included in a search engines index the URL of a website must be submitted to the search engine for review. The search engine then sends a 'spider' to crawl and index the website. This process does not guarantee that the site will be listed, only reviewed. Each search engine has it's own formula for determining if a site will be listed and where it will be placed. For more information on how search engines work, please visit the How stuff works website.

Q: What are eMail Aliases?
A: An eMail Alias is an email address that automatically forwards to another eMail account. Businesses can use this feature to create multiple email addresses that will forward to a single email account. For example: Sales@mycompany.com and Services@mycompany.com could both forward to the sales managers eMail account: Joe.Manager@mycompany.com.

Q: What is an eMail "Catch All" account?
A: An eMail "Catch All" account will forward all invalid email addresses, within a specific domain, to a single account. This is very useful in catching eMails with typos. Example: Something@mycompany.com, Hello@mycompany.com and HelpMe@mycompany.com may not be actual email accounts, but with a "Catch All" account, eMails sent to these addresses could be forwarded to Joe.Manager@mycompany.com.

Q: What is the difference between an animated Gif and a Flash animation?
A: A .gif is a type of image file. An animated .gif are multiple images layered together with instructions to rotate from one image to the next. All standard browsers will display animated gif images. A Flash Animation is a small movie and requires that the Flash software be installed on the client computer.

Q: What are Hit Statistics?
A: Hit Statistics are reports on the number of times pages have been requested from the website, on a per day basis.

Q: What is a Credit Card Merchant Account?
A: A merchant account is the central bank account that consolidates your payments from credit cards, debit cards, electronic checks and other payment processing services. Opening a merchant account lets you accept virtually any type of payments from your customers, and offers you the widest possible means of handling these payments.

Q: What is the difference between using Paypal and having my own Merchant Account?
A: Paypal offers a low hurdle to the world of eCommerce. By using the Paypal checkout process you avoid the expense of opening a merchant account and purchasing an SSL Secure Transaction Certificate. The downside is that the shopping cart and check out experience is done on the Paypal servers using Paypal web pages which will not have the same look and feel.
